Standards for defining / describing the work flow

How many standards for defining / describing the work flow ?

I was on a SOA seminar, and we got to talk about ESB. I was thrown some light about ESB being an example of SOA and there may be any standards for defining / describing the work flow !

And the history is as below (First being the latest)

  • Business Process Execution Language (BPEL)
  • XML Processing Description Language (XPDL)
  • Work Flow Description Language (WFDL)

As web services mature, i wish to see these (above) mature by addressing any new needs, and not a new Description/Execution Language come out...!

Am i matured enough to contribute ?
